Flooring Contractor in Springfield, VA
Springfield went from about a thousand residents in 1950 to more than ten thousand by 1960, which means a whole lot of houses here are sitting on original mid-century oak that nobody has looked at in decades.

Why a Flooring Contractor in Springfield, VA Always Asks About the Carpet First
Suburban Springfield started in 1946, when a developer named Edward Carr began building on what he considered the last easily reachable tract within twelve miles of Washington. Growth was fast: past 25,000 residents by 1970, spread across North, West, and Central Springfield and Ravensworth.
Houses from that stretch commonly went down with narrow-strip hardwood, and a lot of it later got covered by carpet. We find it under wall-to-wall more often than homeowners expect, sometimes in good enough shape to sand and refinish for a fraction of replacement cost.
Stair Creations & Flooring covers hardwood installation, vinyl plank, refinishing, and stairs across the Springfield area. Carlos handles construction and quality control, Alice handles design and scheduling, and our own crews do the work.
The first thing we do on a Springfield estimate is look under whatever is currently on the floor. That single check often changes the entire scope and the entire number.

What Springfield Homeowners Report Back
S
Secrets of Sea Life
We had the best experience with Stair Creations. It started seamlessly with Enrique who helped organize the vision.
We chose to sand our old red oak floors to a beautiful modern beige finish and concluded the job with a modern banister to match.
Their team were so respectful on top of being so knowledgeable with stain matching and mixing. If anything needed attention they were very attentive and came together to insure our satisfaction.
Thank you so much to the team at Stair Creation for their dedication to customer satisfaction.

I had a great experience with this company. Their primary goal is your satisfaction with the project.
They had to come back several times to make things right, and never once made us feel we were being annoying or difficult.
They refinished our hardwood floors and stairs, with some additional stair work/remodeling and we are very happy with our results. Highly recommend.
What Springfield Flooring Actually Costs
We publish per-foot pricing on the two services most people ask about, and quote the rest on an itemized proposal.
- Hardwood flooring installation: $5 to $12 per square foot, supplied and installed, with species and plank width setting your place in the range.
- Vinyl plank flooring installation: $5 to $12 per square foot, supplied and installed. Rigid-core products with thicker wear layers run higher.
- Stair refinishing: about $95 per step, so twelve steps comes to roughly $1,140, a common add-on when the main level is being redone.
- Furniture moving: $175 per hour for a two-person crew.
Refinishing existing hardwood is quoted individually. On a 1950s or 1960s Springfield house, the variables are sanding passes, board repairs, and how closely you want the new stain to match adjacent rooms.
That refinishing route is worth asking about here specifically. Original mid-century oak in reasonable condition often costs meaningfully less to bring back than to replace, and you keep the tight-grain wood that came with the house.

Mid-century Springfield houses hide a lot of good oak, and finding out costs you nothing. Our team handles floor installation in Springfield plus refinishing, vinyl plank, and stairs, and we’ll price both paths so you can compare them side by side. Call us at (703) 902-0009 or contact us here.
Springfield grew out of a rail stop founded in 1847 and became a suburb in earnest after 1946, expanding fast enough to go from roughly a thousand people to over twenty-five thousand in a single generation. That history is why so much of the housing here shares a build era, and why so many homes share the same flooring opportunities. Today the area centers on Lake Accotink Park, Springfield Town Center, and the interchange everyone calls the Mixing Bowl, all covered in Visit Fairfax’s Springfield guide. Because Springfield is unincorporated, permits for basement finishing and interior alterations run through Fairfax County.
