Arlington's Trusted Name for Quality Stair Design

People in Arlington tend to invest in their homes properly, and the staircase is one of those projects that pays that investment back every single day. We’ve worked in a lot of homes around here, older colonials, modern renovations, everything in between, and the one thing they all have in common is that the staircase sets the tone for the whole interior.

We don’t show up with a fixed menu. We come in, look at the space, listen to what you’re after, and work through it with you. Some of the best results we’ve gotten came out of a first consultation where the homeowner had one idea in mind, and we found something better together. That kind of conversation is actually our favourite part of the job.

The full process is ours to manage. Structural engineering, material selection, finishes, and the small tolerances that make a staircase feel genuinely solid rather than just functional. You’ll see it in 3D before we touch a thing, and when the job is done, it’ll look exactly like what you signed off on.

We had a great experience with Stair Creations, start to finish. Their attention to detail and finishing was impeccable. Each team that came to our home was polite, friendly and clean. We had a small scheduling hiccup, but they were quick to make it right. We are very satisfied with the final product and process overall.

We had our stairs redone and found Stair Creations after interviewing a long list of other contractors. So many of the other places wanted to charge the same amount but required significant compromise in aesthetics. The team at Stair Creations listened to what we were hoping for, made recommendations, and helped us make the right choices to stay within our budget while still getting a look that we loved. I honestly wouldn’t work with any other stair company.

What Stair Design Actually Costs in Arlington, VA

The best thing you can do is reach out with your details so we can give you a number that actually means something.

Five factors that move the price in either direction:

Budget and Timeline, Both Worth Talking Through

We know that starting a stair project raises real questions about cost and scheduling, and we don’t think those concerns should get brushed aside with a quick reassurance. Here’s our honest take on both.
Stair design is the kind of investment that adds measurable value to your home while changing how the space actually feels to live in. Spread across the years you’ll spend walking those stairs, hosting guests, and seeing that feature every single day, it’s rarely as daunting as it looks on paper. We’ll help you find a scope that works for what you’re trying to accomplish without overbuilding or cutting corners that matter.
We build our schedules carefully, and we stick to them. Construction in any home is disruptive, and we don’t take that lightly. Our crew works cleanly, communicates clearly at every stage, and treats your home with the same respect they’d want for their own. When we give you a completion date, we mean it.

How the Stair Design Process Works

Working with Stair Creations is straightforward from the first conversation to the final walkthrough. Here’s how it goes:

1. Design

We learn what you want, walk the space, and develop a plan with full drawings and material selections so nothing is left to guesswork.
Step 2 build

2. Build

Our team handles the fabrication and installation with the precision a project like this demands. You’ll know what’s happening and when throughout.
Step 3 enjoy

3. Live

Walk away with a staircase that looks exactly like what you approved and holds up the way it should, for a long time.

Your Questions, Answered

Yes, and it’s one of the things that sets our process apart. Most stair companies skip this step, but we think you should be able to see exactly what you’re getting before a single piece of material is touched. We provide full 3D renderings and CAD drawings as part of the design process, and nothing moves forward until you’ve seen it and approved it.

We back every project with a five-year craftsmanship warranty. That covers any work we handled directly, including installation, staining, finishing, and touch-up work. If we did it, it’s covered. The one exception is situations where we handled installation, but a separate contractor came in to do the staining or finishing. In that case, we cover our portion of the work. We walk you through all of this clearly before the project begins, so there are no surprises later.

There is a consultation fee for the on-site visit. If you move forward with us, that fee gets applied directly to the cost of your project. We charge it because a proper site visit takes real time, and we take it seriously. You’re not getting a quick look around. You’re getting a thorough assessment of the space, the structure, and what the project actually requires.

We handle everything in-house. That includes the actual installation, the staining, the finishing, the touch-up work, and the painting. You don’t have to coordinate multiple crews or track down a separate flooring contractor. We also do flooring installation, so if your stair project connects to a hardwood floor refinish or a new floor installation, we can take care of that too. One team, one point of contact, from start to finish.

That’s genuinely not a problem. About 40 percent of the homeowners we work with come to us without a concrete idea, just a sense that they want something better. That’s when we walk you through our portfolio and catalog, talk through what fits the architecture of your home, and use 3D renderings to help you visualize the direction before committing to anything. Some of the results we’re most proud of started exactly that way.
It depends on the scope. A stair railing replacement or installation usually runs around four days from start to finish. A full hardwood stair installation is closer to six days on average. More complex projects, floating staircases, custom metal fabrication, or stairs that connect to a larger flooring project, will have a longer timeline. Whatever the scope, we build the schedule carefully, communicate throughout, and hold to the completion date we give you.
